Laura & Patrick | Intimate Fall Wedding at a Historical Church

On a crisp, sunny October day, an intimate group of Laura and Patrick’s closest family and friends gathered for their afternoon wedding at Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Troy, Michigan. I can’t think of a better way to have spent Sweetest Day!

When Laura reached out to me in January 2019 about capturing her day, I instantly connected with her warm personality and interests. We met over coffee around a month after her fiancé, Patrick, proposed to her with an ornament on their Christmas tree. Laura’s eyes lit up as she talked about Patrick and all of her amazing DIY plans for her day.

When their day finally arrived, I was blown away by all of the incredible personal details that Laura created. A fellow bookworm, much of her decor celebrated her and Patrick’s shared love for books and some of history’s greatest love stories. It’s so inspiring when couples truly make their day their own and let their personalities and shared interests shine through.

The backdrop of their day only added to the personal charm of Laura’s well thought out details. Once a dairy barn back in 1912, Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation was converted into a church in 1928. I just love how much character it has, and the beautiful natural light that flows into the sanctuary where they said “I do”. A rare find in a church, as most have NO windows! I loved capturing some of the unique architectural moments of their day.

Donned in emerald green, Laura and Patrick’s bridal party smiled in the sun and surrounded them with love. They laughed with one another as we captured portraits under a tree showing off its fall foliage. Guests signed Laura’s handmade guest book, filled with portraits from our engagement session together. Friends and family chattered over lunch and enjoyed the most AMAZING roasted chicken breast garnished with mandarin oranges and perfectly crisp potatoes (side note: best chicken dish I’ve ever tasted in my life!).
